SUPPORT TBA.

Australia’s most innovative and powerful surf rock band is:
Jim Moginie (guitar/theremin/keyboards); Rob Hirst (drums)
Brian Ritchie (bass/vocals); Martin Rotsey (guitar);
Jack Howard (trumpet).

Many of the elements of the band’s first recording ‘Church of the Open Sky’ remain: the raw energy of live studio takes driven by the rhythm section of drummer Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil) and bassist Brian Ritchie (Violent Femmes); and the strong guitar/theremin/keyboard melodies of the Oil’s Jim Moginie and Martin Rotsey’s guitar. Jack Howard (Hunters & Collectors) completes the Space Farm line-up, playing soaring surf/mariachi trumpet’

Space Farm sees the band discovering new musical frontiers and exploring new sonic galaxies. The rips and swells and chants of the first album are still there, but the band has added turf to the surf and beef to the reef, and picked up a few singing hitchhikers along the way. Engelbert Humperdink’s distinct smooth voice on ‘Ten Guitars’ – The Break’s take on this classic. The Gyuto Monks of Tibet chant the 13th century ‘Psychonauts for Freedom’ Puja!

‘Space Farm’ was recorded and produced by Jim Moginie at Oceanic Studios, Sydney and mixed by Tim Whitten. The Break will be performing the album live, right around Australia, throughout 2013.

Here’s what Brian Ritchie has to say about Space Farm:
“Australian rock royalty unite in the quest for the perfect twang. The Break features members of Oils, Femmes, Hunters, but streamline the sound for maximum surf/psychedelia impact. Symphonic in scope, primeval in impact, The Break can make you cry at the same time they pound your head and bend your mind. Catch the space wave.”

‘Space Farm’ release through Sony Music Friday 15 March 2013

Totally Unicorn vs Robotosaurus; this is the sort of pay per view I’d want to see, and thank fuck we’re getting the chance to. Some time in June these two 5 piece acts will be storming your capital city in support of their upcoming split Together Alone (through MONOLITH), in what will be a tour of debauchery, drinking, and nudity in excess. The boys from Adelaide and Wollongong have been long time friends but competition ensues whenever the stage is shared by these big men – and even more so once the opportunity to record a split together finally arrived. With Izzy (Robots) & Drew (Unicorns) fronting some of the most entertaining destruction-machines that are their backing, this is going to be one of the hardest and most anticipated Australian release of 2013.

We now play the waiting game…

SUPPORT FROM GANG OF YOUTHS, ROCKETS AND THE PREATURES DJ’S.

The intriguingly named Jenny Broke The Window are back. After spending the last two years writing and gigging, JBTW have recorded their debut single with a little help from acclaimed music producer Tony Buchen (Alberts Music – Washington, The Preatures).

In their debut release ‘Ravel’ the four piece have layered a new dimension onto the sound of their early demos, resulting in a mature and international sounding composition. JBTW admire bands like The Drums, The Maccabees and Mystery Jets, which is felt subtly in this indie pop gem ‘Ravel’.

‘Ravel’ is a track which reflects the honesty and purity of youth and its deterring ‘Ravel’ is a track which reflects the honesty and purity of youth and its deterring aspects of growing up. This is wrapped up in the lyrics at the end of they track as they chant “we were the honest ones, caught up in this lying world.”

The single artwork was created by Jack Toohey – a promising young Sydney photographer who JBTW have always admired. The shot captured is reminiscent of an idyllic summers day from yesteryear. The muted colours and retro hues wraps up ‘Ravel’ perfectly. Jack Toohey – http://www.jacktoohey.com/

SUPPORT FROM NEW EMPIRE

The Frontier Company has announced that Utah rockers Neon Trees will be tearing Sydney with a special one off performance at The Standard!

The band is set to perform their infectious brand of pop rock at Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne and The Standard in Sydney for their first Australian shows since 2011.

Well known for juxtaposing dazzling guitar hooks with thoughtful and reflective lyrics the last 12 months have seen the band climb to the top of the charts with second studio album Picture Show (out now through Universal).

The album was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnson who has worked with everyone from Beck to M83 and the album itself manages to nuance the restless surges of new wave, yet never takes itself too seriously.
Lead single ‘Everybody Talks’ has been a song that lives up its namesake; making it to #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 as well as go multi platinum in the U.S., here in Australia it’s their second single to go platinum and charted ARIA’s top 10.

The album has accomplished that rare feat of getting people up dancing whilst still impressing critics;

“Fans of this Utah synth-rock outfit’s ultra-catchy 2010 hit ‘Animal’ will find much to appreciate about Neon Trees’ sophomore album, Picture Show, which leads with a half-dozen hook bombs right in a row… Neon Trees flex some impressive song craft here. Picture Show should end up as one the year’s most tuneful rock releases.” – Billboard

“This is a perfect album for the summer, or the spring… or pretty much anytime you need something bursting with fun melodies.” – Absolute Punk

Neon Trees are also formidable live “I think one of the things we’re good at is putting on a show,” says drummer & vocalist Elaine Bradley, in fact the band caught their big break opening for The Killers and have since gone on to open for Thirty Seconds To Mars, My Chemical Romance, The Offspring and Maroon 5 to name a few.

The bands commanding live performances have managed to enrapture audiences and critics alike;

“Right from the start, it was clear we were in for one hell of a set. Charismatic frontman Tyler Glenn pranced around the stage, vamping for the crowd, swinging his microphone, kicking his legs, and singing his heart out. Glenn and his band mates are incredibly polished, uber-talented, and passionate…
a true spectacle of sight and sound.” – Hollywood Reporter

Neon Trees first captured the public’s attention with 2010’s Habits, bursting with charisma and clever story telling it’s break through single ‘Animal’ scored a #1 on the U.S. Alternative Songs Chart eventually winning ‘Top Alternative Song’ at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards. In Australia the single was certified platinum and was the most played song on Australian radio in 2011. ‘Animal’ has also since been covered by a host of artists from Taylor Swift to Panic! At The Disco.

Neon Trees have also lit up screens as well with a huge number of television performances including Jimmy Kimmel, Jay Leno, Conan, David Letterman, Ellen and America’s Got Talent.

Be ready; with an artillery of radio stompers and the stage presence to back it up the band is unquestionably set to burn brightly when they hit the stage this May.
With only two shows tickets are set to fly so make sure you snap yours up quickly…

SUPPORTS COLLARBONES AND MAMMALS

To celebrate the release of her highly anticipated debut LP ‘Nightswim’ (out April 19), Owl Eyes is thrilled to announce she will be heading out on tour around the country in May and June. Playing shows in all major cities, this is the first time Owl eyes has toured nationally since her sold out tour in May 2012, and the first opportunity fans will get to hear the new material live.

Having created significant local buzz, a passionate fanbase and an air of mystery in her short career, Owl Eyes continues the intrigue with ‘Nightswim’. A remarkably deep, ultra-modern, vibrant collection, ‘Nightswim’ not only showcases Brooke’s signature pop sensibilities and sublime taste, it firmly establishes her as one of music’s brightest and most innovative songwriters.

She’ll be supported by two of the country’s hottest young acts – Sydney / Adelaide buzz band Collarbones and Sydney’s burgeoning Mammals.

With her amazing debut album on the way and if her past tours are anything to go by, these dates are sure to sell out. Don’t miss this slice of synthpop heaven.
